Vegan wine.

Chenin Blanc at Simonsig was the first wine marketed by wine estate founder Frans Malan in 1968. Over the years, this white wine has become increasingly recognized, so much so that 55 consecutive vintages of Chenin Blanc at Simonsig were celebrated in 2023.

Simonsig's Chenin Blanc is clear and bright in color; the nose is rich with tropical aromas, including passion fruit, melon and yellow-fleshed peach.
The palate of this Chenin Blanc is beautifully structured with layers of grapefruit, pear and tropical fruits. Lively acidity contributes to freshness and persistence, making it an exceptional fresh white wine.
A South African white wine that is a true expression of Simonsig wine estate terroir.

Table pairings: ideal with citrus and beet salads, with goat cheese, shellfish, barbecued chicken. Excellent as an aperitif.

In the vineyard

A cold but dry winter in 2022 was followed by a long dry spell in spring and early summer.
Timely December rains brought much-needed relief for vineyards in the Western Cape area of Suafrica and played an important role in setting and energizing the vines for the weeks leading up to harvest. It was the earliest start at Simonsig, with the first grapes arriving at the winery on January 11. Throughout the harvest, temperatures remained mild. It was the second coolest harvest season in the past 10 years, with average temperatures below average. This created excellent ripening conditions for the grapes, which resulted in an exceptional harvest for rosé and white wines.

In the cellar

The bunches are hand-picked and pressed; a part of the must remains to macerate on the skins for the whole night. The must is then inoculated with selected yeasts, chosen for the production of fruity wines. The fermentation temperature is kept between 12 ° C and 14 ° C, in order to ensure a slow process capable of producing the best fruit flavor.
