Lisette Forsyth - Contemporary art and override technique on recycled materials

Lisette Forsyth is an artist from Cape Town, South Africa, who has made the override technique-the overwriting of human figures on recycled materials-her signature style. Using markers, charcoal, and watercolors, Lisette transforms old sheet music, book pages, historical maps, and architectural plans into works of art that bring past and present into dialogue.

Her art practice is based on the idea of transmutation: any discarded surface-be it wood, rusted metal or yellowed paper-is regenerated into a work that tells human and social stories. Her creations, often characterized by dark tones such as blue, brown and black, invite the viewer to a careful and reflective reading.

Lisette Forsyth has exhibited her work in South Africa and internationally, participating in events such as the International Public Art Festival in Cape Town and exhibitions in cities such as New York, Munich, and Lisbon. Her most significant exhibitions include “A Reflection of Us” and “LAND,” where she explores themes such as identity, memory and social justice through the creative reuse of materials.

The colors used are dark (blue, brown or black), almost to deceive the indications of the originals and emerge only at a careful vision.

All the works are original, and signed by the author "LF".
