Simonsig Wines: Stellenbosch excellence
Cape Best is proud to be the exclusive official importer for Italy of Simonsig Wine Estate, one of South Africa's most iconic and awarded wineries. Choosing a Simonsig wine means immersing oneself in the winemaking history of Stellenbosch, still guided today by the pioneering vision of the Malan family.
A history of innovation: from the first MCC to Pinotage
Founded by Frans Malan and still a family-run winery, Simonsig is not just an estate, but a milestone in global oenology. The Malan family has honored its French Huguenot roots by bringing innovation to the glass:
- The invention of Cap Classique: in 1971, Simonsig was the first winery to produce Méthode Cap Classique (MCC), the South African traditional method sparkling wine that today competes with the finest Champagnes. The famous Kaapse Vonkel was born.
- Pinotage Pioneers: Among the first to elevate the indigenous South African grape variety, transforming it into a wine of international structure and elegance.
The terroir and the view of Simonsberg
The name "Simonsig," which literally means "Simonsberg View" in Afrikaans, refers to the majestic mountain that guarantees an ideal microclimate for viticulture. The combination of ancient soils and ocean breezes allows for the creation of complex wines, ranging from vibrant whites (like Chenin Blanc) to full-bodied reds.
Sustainability and respect for the environment
Simonsig is synonymous with sustainable viticulture. Every bottle reflects the winery's commitment to biodiversity:
- Drastic reduction of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
- Agricultural practices that preserve the health of the Stellenbosch soil.
- Environmental respect certifications for an eco-conscious future.
The iconic wines of the Simonsig collection
In our exclusive selection, you will find the finest expressions of the estate:
- Kaapse Vonkel (Brut and Rosé): MCC par excellence, ideal as a classy aperitif or paired with raw fish and shellfish.
- Labyrinth Cabernet Sauvignon: a full-bodied red that expresses all the strength of the Stellenbosch terroir.
- Chenin Blanc: a fresh and fruity white, an emblem of South Africa's winemaking versatility.
- Redhill Pinotage: an award-winning reserve, perfect for those looking for an intense red wine to pair with grilled meats or spicy dishes.
