In 1488, Bartholomew Dias was the first navigator to round the southern tip of Africa, marking the beginning of an era for the courageous "Maritimos" who opened the sea route to the East. Nearly two centuries later, the first vines also arrived by sea at the beautiful Cape of South Africa. Maritimo is a wine guided by the compass of adventure and a testament to the boldness of these explorers, a symbol of the seafaring spirit and the introduction of the vine to South Africa.
This Rhone-style red blend presents a dark, brilliant ruby color, which enhances its youthful vivacity. On the nose, it offers aromas of berries , notes of graphite and florals, with earthy accents of fynbos . On the palate, it is fresh and elegant, with balanced acidity and a lingering finish of berries and a silky texture.
Food pairings: A perfect wine to accompany risotto , lamb chops, and roast duck. Versatile, it also pairs well with vegetarian dishes like vegetable skewers or spinach and feta salad.
It is recommended to serve in large glasses, at 16-18°C to enhance its aromas and flavour.

In the vineyard
In the vineyard
The Maritimo wine is the result of meticulous vinification, using specific techniques for each variety. Mourvèdre fermented for 15 days, partially with carbonic maceration. The Grenache Noir contained 26% whole bunches, fermenting for 13 days. A small portion of Syrah and Grenache was co-fermented with manual punching down. The Marselan fermented spontaneously with gentle punching down, while the Syrah from the “Mr Borio” vineyard underwent spontaneous submerged cap fermentation with 26% whole bunches. All lots were aged separately for 15 months in French oak, partially new for the Grenache, then blended and aged for 3 months in concrete.

In the cellar
The Maritimo blend aims for harmony between Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir, Marselan, and Syrah. The Mourvèdre adds vivacity, the Grenache adds fruit, the Marselan structure, and the Syrah-Grenache co-fermentation adds complexity. The blend rests for three months in cement to integrate before bottling, resulting in a balanced and nuanced South African wine.
