Wine of Origin Bamboes Bay, South Africa

In the vineyard

Bamboes Bay's Sauvignon Blanc vineyards are located 500 metres from the Atlantic Ocean along the western coast of the Cape and are planted in layered Hutton soil with limestone extending deep underground.
The 2023 harvest was one of those exceptional years for growing Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It was characterized by cool days with the ever-present sea fog that poured in from the cold Atlantic Ocean, enveloping the vineyards in a protective blanket.
This led to optimal, long, and uniform ripening, with the harvest beginning in the first week of March. Final ripening was rapid, and the healthy, flavorful grapes were harvested with perfect sugar levels within a week.

In the cellar

The winemaking process at Fryers Cove is, in true West Coast style, very simple and minimally invasive. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are first destemmed and then pressed, using only the finest juice for the Bamboes Bay range.
The juice is racked and inoculated with yeasts, after which it ferments for about a week. After fermentation, the wine is left to age on its lees to further develop its flavor.
