The work
The city, viewed from above, ceases to be a place and becomes a system. The masses of skyscrapers compress, overlap, respond to each other from a distance — and the black and white eliminates color to reveal only the structure. What remains is the logic of construction: geometries that do not ask for interpretation, but impose it. A gaze that does not seek beauty — it finds it by subtraction.
The frame
The frame is made from antique reclaimed wood from Cape Town, selected for its history and natural irregularities. This particular example features an antique white finish with natural wood and ochre, with evident flaking textures showing previous paints and the natural wood underneath. The result is a piece that belongs to the Industrial style: raw, urban, without aesthetic compromises.
