The benches are empty. Not abandoned - empty.
There's a difference: these are still waiting for someone. The summer light obliquely crosses them, the wooden slats of the shutters filter the warm air, and the black and white removes color to return only the weight of silence. *Will they return?* is not a rhetorical question - it's the thought that forms before every vacant seat, with the unstable certainty that their return is only a matter of time.
The frame
Made from reclaimed antique wood from Cape Town, selected for its history and natural irregularity. This example features a burgundy finish with deep blue and a cream wood insert. The surface is deliberately rough, with dark blue and burgundy seamlessly blending, like two layers of lived experience that refuse to remain separate.
