In this tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cupydo brings the famous "Warrior" to the banknote. The instinctive, raw, and regal stroke of the neo-expressionist warrior overlaps the dollar's watermark, transforming the symbol of material power into a symbol of spiritual and identity power. Through this sedimentation of signs, Cupydo celebrates art as a form of resistance and affirmation of uniqueness, concepts dear to his Cohesionist movement.
For such a powerful work, we chose a frame that would enhance its luminosity without overpowering it. The reclaimed wood is here rendered in white and cream tones, which reveal the natural texture and history of the material. The surprise element is the light blue inner edge: a chromatic detail that frames the work and highlights the bold strokes of the Warrior. It is an example of how reclaimed design can be both rustic and incredibly sophisticated.
