The Bernard Series Bush Vine Pinotage - Bellingham

IN BRIEF

📍 Coastal Region · Pinotage 100%
From old bush vines
Elegant, intense, and limited production red

Why we like it

This Pinotage focuses on elegance rather than power. The old vines, the cool climate influenced by the Atlantic, and the low-intervention winemaking create a refined, fresh wine that expresses the most modern side of South Africa's emblematic grape variety.

Wine Profile

The nose reveals cherry, plum, and raspberry, accompanied by delicate spicy notes and dark chocolate. The sip is precise and harmonious, with bright red fruit, fine tannins, and a pleasant freshness that leads to a long, elegant, and savory finish.

Bellingham's Signature

The Bernard Series is dedicated to Bernard Podlashuk, the visionary co-founder of Bellingham and a key figure in the revival of South African wine. This collection represents the winery's highest artisanal expression, with wines produced in limited quantities and designed to enhance the character of the territory.

Food Pairing

Perfect with grilled lamb, duck breast, mushroom risotto, and aged Gouda.

Serving

Serve at 16-18°C in a large glass.

Origin

Wine of Origin Coastal Region, South Africa.

In the vineyard

The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Coastal Region, 66% from Stellenbosch and 34% from Darling. Atlantic Ocean breezes promote a slow and complete ripening of the grapes, preserving freshness, natural acidity, and optimal phenolic ripeness. The old bush vines produce concentrated bunches, capable of expressing all the elegance of Pinotage.

In the cellar

Each parcel was hand-harvested and vinified separately. Fermentation took place in open concrete tanks with manual pump-overs and punch-downs every three hours. The winemaking follows a philosophy of minimal intervention to preserve the authenticity of the fruit. After approximately five days of maceration, the wine was pressed and aged to achieve balance and elegance.
