In the vineyard
In the vineyard
The grapes selected for Anthonij Rupert Optima come from the L'Ormarins estate in Franschhoek and the Rooderust estate in Darling. Specific sites, with mainly decomposed granitic soil and unique climatic conditions, selected as the most suitable for producing the best grapes for the Optima blend.
Many vines have been affected by the drought of the last 3 and 4 years and, despite the presence of moderate rainfall, the size of the harvest is smaller than previous years. The smaller grapes helped maintain an excellent balance between acidity and sugar as well as a discreet distribution of flavors.
In the cellar
In the cellar
The grapes are selected by an optical sorter, capable of identifying only the best quality bunches. The must ferments on the skins in different fermentation tanks and is then subjected to a prolonged maceration. The wine then matures in 225 liter French oak barrels (30% new) for 20 months.
